Small Group Questions

John 20:19-22; Luke 24:36-49

Opening:

Have you ever gone to your room and locked the door? Why?

Review Pastor Joel's sermon and Take Home Idea. What struck you about the sermon? What do you have questions about?

Dig: Read John 20:19-22

Why are the disciples fearful now?

Of all the things that Jesus must have said, why does John record, “peace be with you” three times (vs. 19, 21, 26)? How does this relate to their fears? How does this greeting communicate a “sure and certain hope”? How does this relate to their being sent?

What is the mission Jesus gives these disciples?

Read Luke 24:36-49

Why do the disciples have such a hard time believing? Not using their eyes? Not enough faith? Too happy?

Why was it necessary for them to see that Jesus was not a ghost?

What are the evidences that Jesus’ resurrected body was physical? Ordinary? Extra-ordinary?

How does this show us our future?

What is Jesus doing in vs. 44-48 when he talks about the Old Testament?

What task does Jesus give them? With what promise? How must they have felt?

Reflect:

How does knowing your future make a difference in your life now? What do you need to do in order for it to have a greater impact in your life now?

How does knowing you have been given the Holy Spirit help you carry out the mission Jesus has given us?

Do you feel like you are on mission with Jesus or not?  Why or why not?
