Holy Spirit: The Wind

Holy Spirit: The Wind

Acts 2

Christian life is impossible.

We need more than precepts, we need power.

We are ignorant as to who the Holy Spirit is.

  • The Holy Spirit is not an “it”, He is a person. (John 14:15-17)
  • The Holy Spirit is not a “little” God, He is fully God. (Acts 5:3-4)

Two word pictures of the Holy Spirit

  • He is like fire.
  • He is like the wind.

Take Home Idea: We can only live this Christian life under the control and power of the Holy Spirit.

"Holy Spirit: The Wind" Small Group Questions

Opening:

If you were to use a metaphor to describe the Holy Spirit, what metaphor would you use?

Review Pastor Joel's sermon and Take Home Idea. What struck you about the sermon?

What do you have questions about?

Dig: Read Acts 2

Put yourself in the place of the disciples when they heard Jesus tell them he was going away, but they would do greater works they he did. How do you think you would feel?

Do you agree or disagree with Pastor Joel’s statement that the Christian life is impossible? Why or why not?

If you had been in that upper room on that day of Pentecost, what would you have seen, heard and felt?

If you had been in the crowd, what would you have seen, heard and felt?

Pastor Joel mentioned two erroneous ideas about the Holy Spirit. What are they? Are there others you know of?

How do the two word pictures for the Holy Spirit that are in Acts 2:2-3 help us understand who the Holy Spirit is and what He does?

Reflect:

What is special to you about the Holy Spirit?

How have you experienced the presence and person of the Holy Spirit?

What can you do to allow “the wind” to catch you?

Close this time sharing and praying together as a group.
